When I searched the internet to find the hotel for our holiday, I found more apartments than hotel rooms in Gold Coast. When I compared the prize, I was surprised to see that a two bedroom apartment complete with kitchenette and laundry facility was actually cheaper than a hotel room (in our case and depend on which hotel and apartment that you compare).
With this arrangement, the five of us could stay in one room together, cooked for our breakfast, and did our laundry. It was so easy to just put the clothes including the swim suits into the washing machine at night, then put the clothes into the dryer, and woke up in the morning to find out that all the clothes were clean and fresh.
I chose to stay around Surfers Paradise because it was a popular tourist destination. We didn’t stay in the heart of the Surfers Paradise, and we still needed to walk at least 15 minutes to Cavill Avenue, restaurants, and supermarket, but this also meant that the prize of the hotel was not as high as those located in the heart of Surfers Paradise. With only around AUD150 per night, this was worth the money.
The hotel was nice, new, modern look, and the most important thing was also very clean. It was also very close to a quiet beach (within 5 minutes walking distance).
This hotel location was also very close to the bus stop and tram station which could easily took us to theme parks, Anzac Park Playground, and big malls around Gold Coast. My sister and mother only needed to take the tram to go to Australian Fair Shopping Center or even Pacific Fair Shopping Center.
Although it was not very close to theme parks (most theme parks were located far away from the city center), but going to theme park from Surfers Paradise area was still considering close enough than from other area.
The hotel also had a centrally air conditioner in every room including living room, hallway, and kitchen. Basic toiletries, small amount of washing powder for washing machine and dishwasher were also provided, but only on the first day. If you need more, you need to top up by yourself. Luckily we brought our own washing liquid for washing machine and to wash the dishes.
There would be no cleaning during the stay, and we must tidy up the kitchen including throwing the rubbish into the rubbish chute before leaving the apartment. Failed to do so would make the hotel charge extra amount of money from us. As a common thing in Gold Coast, hotel check in hour was at 2 pm and check out time was 10 am, but we could get early check in both hotels.
The boy (and us too) also loved this hotel at first sight. For the boy, he loved to spend most of the time in front of the TV when he wasn’t going anywhere (this time he didn’t need to ask my permission to turn on the TV, so yeah he was very happy about it), and the TV also had Boomerang Channel which is now no more in our Starhub cable TV in Singapore (don’t ask me why this channel is disappear now).
And let’s not forget the swimming pool and Jacuzzi, plus the sauna room and gym facility but we didn’t try them both. The pool water was cold so the we preferred the Jacuzzi with bubbles and nice warm water.
Overall, we really liked Artique Hotel a lot and we really enjoyed our stay there. So it was understandable when the boy said he missed this hotel when we moved to another hotel. Although he said he liked both hotels the same, but he still missed Artique, Surfers Paradise, and the one and only Sky Point.
That was the end of our first day trip in Gold Coast.
