Back to Nature in Jendela Alam Bandung

The June school holiday is almost over, and I’m back and ready to blog again. So before we are having the post school holiday blues which will happen in just a few days, I will try as hard as I can to overcome my laziness and (hopefully) post our complete holiday stories.

As usual, Lembang is always our family first choice for a short getaway. I was confused of where to go in Lembang, and I was very glad when I found out about this place. Our family loves outdoor activities, and so Jendela Alam would be a great place for us to spend the day.

Located in Komplek Graha Puspa, Jalan Sersan Bajuri km. 4.5, this place is quite easy to reach. Once you see Terminal Ledeng, turn left to Jalan Sersan Bajuri. Just go straight until you see Komplek Graha Puspa (about 5 minutes from Kampung Gajah). This place opens from 8 am to 16.30 pm on weekends. For more information, you can visit http://www.jendela-alam.com.

Basically, this is a place for you who love going back to nature after hectic days in the city. This place is just not suitable for children, but also for adults. My mother and sister especially loved to see the fruits and vegetable plants and how they grew so well in this place (for your information, my mom likes gardening and my sister loves to see flowers and plants so they really liked this place).

My son also really enjoyed being in this place because he’s an outdoor person and he loved to see the many kind of animals…….and the experience of feeding the animals with vegetables that he harvested himself was truly priceless.

We must paid Rp 15.000,- per person to enter this place. This picture was taken in front of the ticketing counter

After you pay, you can enter and see everything for free. Playing in the playground is also free, but if you want to feed the animals……………you must buy another ticket and it will cost you Rp 20.000,-

I think it’s a fair price considering you will get 1 tour guide during the feeding session.

This was what we saw once we entered Jendela Alam. Too bad there were some groups of children during our visit, so some of the activities were closed specially for them

Jendela Alam

It’s a nice place for children to run free in the open space

Some of you might find the smell of the animals can be too strong or disturbing, but thankfully we were all OK with it and we had no complaints at all. It was fresh air, no pollution, and there would be no side effect for our health.

Too bad I found an idiot smoke in the middle of the children playground. His children was playing somewhere else, and he just sat down in one of the swing and smoked, and the smell and the smoke was everywhere around the playground. Of course(without thinking twice), I scolded him and gave him the look that said: “You’re the most disgusting person that I’ve ever seen.” Seriously, I have no respect at all for people who smoke near the children, especially someone else’s children. If you want to kill yourself with the cigarettes, do it alone! Don’t do it near my child!!! This place should give a serious warning so people will not smoke inside. This idiot wasn’t the only idiot that I saw smoking in this beautiful place, but since the other idiots didn’t smoke near my child, I didn’t get too angry with them. And no, I don’t consider them as people, so I keep calling them idiots, because they too have children near them and they still smoked near their children and other people’s children. You can’t do that unless you’re super idiot. The good thing was, the idiot that sat on the swing turned off his cigarette after I scolded him.

OK, enough talking about that. Let’s continue this post with our adventure in Jendela Alam.

Animals

Giraffe and zebra (not real of course…………..)

So, this is basically what we got when we chose the animals feeding session with a guide for Rp 20.000,-

Memetik Kangkung

First, the boy must pick up vegetables (kangkong), put them in a basket, and would use them to feed the animals. I thought he enjoyed it form the look of his face

Petik Kangkung

One basket full of kangkong. And now we’re ready to feed……………

A deer……………well, there were actually two deer, but the other one was too lazy to get up, hahaha……………

DSC01890

Cute rabbits in different colors. We also saw super cute and tiny baby rabbits in here

DSC01912

Very hungry goats. They were very aggressive when they saw food

DSC01926

A horse……………….

and finally………….a cow

DSC01894

We passed by these chickens before going to our next destination. I just knew that there is one kind of chicken with the name: The Laughing Chicken of Sulawesi. Seriously, that was what written in the display name, which they translated into : Ayam Ketawa Sulawesi…………….

DSC01909

There were also ducks, goose, turkeys, etc……..

Next, the guide took us to the chicken farm so the boy could take some chicken kampong egg (telur ayam kampung) from “the original sources”. He was afraid at the first time, but finally he gained his confidence and we decided to but 10 eggs. Each egg was Rp 2700,-

Mushroom farming in a very dark room. I don’t remember the mushroom price

Next, the guide brought us to pick up some organic and fresh vegetables. We bought fresh green vegetables, and they tasted very good. So fresh and so different from the ones we always buy in the market.

Petik Sayur

Very cheap, only Rp. 30.000,- per kg

And that was the end of our guided tour. The tour guide was very nice too. After that, we just explored the whole area by ourselves.

Saung

We rested in one of the gazebo (saung) to eat and rested our feet before we continued the journey to see the various kind of plants

Plants

Lime, lavender, papayas, and giant pumpkin which holds the record as the biggest pumpkin in Indonesia

Not just animals and plants, there are also another activities for children, including a free playground. Please note that the playground in the only free thing in here, for other activities……………you have to pay

DSC01987

Pony ride for Rp 20.000,-

DSC01993

Fish catching for another Rp 20.000,-

DSC02044

Alternatively, the children can try to catch the fish in the small river which will be more challenging for them. This place was closed for group activity when we came

No need to pay extra money to see these animals too:

Animals

A big snake in the reptile house and birds

DSC02022

Children playground was very crowded when we came

DSC02028

This monkey bar was already too low for him, so he chose to use play in a different way

DSC02027

Small pool with cold water for Rp 20.000,- or Rp 25.000,-

DSC02043

Becak mini for Rp.20.000,- for 3 rounds

The highlight of the day was absolutely this 8 Meters from the ground flying fox. The boy said it was so much fun that he insisted to go for the second round. Of course I didn’t dare to try this.

DSC02015

Flying fox for Rp 30.000,- He just said: “I want again, again………..”

Flying Fox

I asked him: “Were you scared?” And he said: “Not at all…….!!!” I have a feeling this boy will grow up enjoying extreme sports one day………….

We were all tired, and decided to end the day. Luckily the journey from Jakarta wasn’t too bad and I brought my GPS which absolutely helped a lot.

DSC02087

We got bayam (spinach) dan kangkong seeds to be planted at home as free gift. Until today, those seeds are still sealed well in the packet……………

There is also a restaurant inside Jendela Alam but we didn’t try to eat here.

The minus point from this place is the toilets which were very dirty. I think really should improve the cleanliness of the toilets.

Next stop: Pesona Bamboe Hotel in Lembang.

Hi there. I'm from Indonesia but now live quite far away from my home country. I love cooking for my family. I learned how to cook for the first time from my mom and I believe that mom's cooking is always the best, and I do hope that my son will feel the same too even though he grows up so fast. I love Indonesian food as I grew up with it, and I promise to myself that my son, although he doesn't live in Indonesia right now, will always like and enjoy authentic Indonesian food. I make this blog so that my family will always remember our togetherness and happy time that we had, are having, and will have when we eat together and have good memories about a mother's love through her dishes. Hopefully these recipes will help other people to make healthy home cooked dishes for their families.
