Yes, it’s almost time for Christmas and also December school holiday (although the holiday actually starts in November). There are many shows and activities at the malls, airport, and beach. And of course, we as parents do not want to be left behind and go mall-airport-beach hopping to join other parents and children watch all the shows or playing in the mini playgrounds.
We’ve seen malls with Christmas decorations since mid October (a little too early???) which raised up our Christmas spirit and the happiness knowing that “the most wonderful day of the year” is coming very close to us.
So below, I will recap all the shows or activities that we joined (and will be joining), and I update again after we visited all shows/places in our list. Of course we’re not going to watch all shows or play in all playgrounds, but we’re selecting the shows/activities that interest the boy
and me the most and also not sooooooo very far away from home (we’re still considering Ang Mo Kio is not very far away from Pasir Ris, but we’re not going to visit the Christmas Maze in Yew Tee although it’s reachable with MRT). We’re probably not going to play in the “soap snow” in Tanglin Mall again like last year since the weather today is so unpredictable (Tanglin Mall is quite far from Orchard MRT Station, and the outdoor snow play can be cancelled anytime due to weather condition).
Most of the shows and playgrounds are free of charge, but some of them need entrance fee to be able to join. Of course lil boy gets very excited and happy with all the fun activities before he’s going to the “road of stressful experience” in P1 in January 2013. So, we just call this as a re-charge sessions before he puts his uniforms on.
I want to capture the splendor of Orchard Christmas Lights at night this year, but a few times that we visited Orchard (including last night), it was always raining very hard. Still hoping that next week when we visit Orchard again for the doctor’s appointment, it’s not going to be raining at night.
Now, here is how we spend our year end filled with tons of fun activities:
1. Raffles City (City Hall MRT)
Show: Alice Christmas in Wonderland
Play: Lego Exhibition with hundreds of “play for free lego” for children and adults to enjoy
2. Eastpoint Mall (Simei MRT)
Playground: Christmas Playland ($5 for 30 minutes of play)
Show: Bubble Show
Well, if that’s not enough, there is still an Infatables Playground ($4 for 20 minutes). Of course we (I actually) skipped that, very expensive in my opinion for just 20 minutes of playing.
Another fun activity in Eastpoint Mall??? Just head off to Daiso to check on their super colorful yet cheap Christmas Decoration…….
And last one was the Gazillion and Incredible Bubble Show in Eastpoint Mall (we watched the very last time of the show, but we arrived early so we managed to get the front seat).
3. Downtown East (Pasir Ris MRT)
Show: The Greatest Show 3: A Prelude, Rockin’ Christmas Live Show
Play area: Choo Choo Train ($3 per train ride)
4. United Square (Novena MRT)
Show: Barney, Pingu, and Bob The Builder Show
5. Junction8 (Bishan MRT)
Let’s smurf the mall with smurfie land…..because this year Junction8 is bringing the smurfs down to the mall. Mushroomsand silver sprinkles are everywhere…bringing us back to our childhood memories of Papa Smurf, Clumsy, Brainy, Vanity, Smurfette, and no to forget Gargamel and his cat Azrael. I hope I spelled them correctly.
And now, without further due….here are the Smurfs…..(we watched this twice on the same day):
6. Forum The Shopping Mall (Orchard MRT)
The show: CAT (Theater Production) with Julia Gabriel Center
This is so far (in my opinion) is the best show I’ve ever watched. Situated in a stage decorated like the backyard of a house (with cat and dog’s house, tree, small pond, etc), this show is played by four persons from Julia Gabriel Center. They played as human, butterflies, mouse, cat, dog, bird, etc. This show was very fun and interactive. The players played very well and acted naturally, asking children to copy what they did, making sounds (with their mouths or with the helping of guitar, flute, or other small music instruments), and we were all had fun together. Most of the children (some toddlers cried) including my boy were laughing, screaming, dancing, and copying the acts. This show was very funny……..everyone couldn’t stop laughing and clapping hands. Very educative for children too. The two men who acted as cat and dog were very funny, they did the “Tom and Jerry Show” by chasing each other in the middle of us….and it made the children laughed very hard and screamed when the dog almost caught the cat.
All the actors were full of smiles and very friendly with children too…..the reactions of the children made us (parents) laughed very hard too……
Since we were not allowed to take photographs during the show (although I got some interesting pictures but I can’t share them here), so I will just put the stage pictures here. As for the show, it is very recommended for you to come and see the show by yourselves. Looks like they do it every year because of the high demand of the show, so if you miss it this year, try to check this show again next year.
Those are my recap for now, and will continue soon. Still on our list are: Bubble Show in Eastpoint Mall Simei, Playcation in Sentosa, Dinosaur Train Musical in Marina Square, Rockin’ Christmas Live Show in Downtown East, and maybe Snow and Bubble in AMK Hub. Let’s see if we can see all of them or even add some more.
7. Christmas Decoration in Citylink
Location: Cityhall MRT
8. Marina Square (Cityhall/Esplanade MRT)
Show: Dinosaur Train Adventure Live Musical
Being a big fan of Dinosaur Train, of course we would not miss the show. Daddy queued one hour before for us to get the front seat and to get the free meet and greet pass. And what mommy and lil boy doing while daddy waited in the queue?
Taking pictures and shopping…………..
And now, it’s time for the show:
9. Tanglin Mall
Yes, I said earlier that we would probably not visiting Tanglin Mall to “catch” the snow again like last year because it’s far away from our house and we we afraid of the rain that would cancel the snow show. But after we watched the show in Marina Square and lil boy played for hours in the small playground, we thought that we still had some time to go to Tanglin Mall before going home.
Well, it was usually raining when we were still in Marina Square, but thankfully the rain stopped when we arrived in Tanglin Mall. We played with the snow twice, at 7.30 pm and 8.30 pm. It was fun and foamy…………need to bathe from head to toe at home after we played.
Well, I thinks it’s a wrap for now. As Christmas is approaching, most of the shows at the malls were ended up a few days ago. We will not go to AMK like we already planned since we already “catch the snow” in Tanglin Mall. So, see you for another Christmas activities recap next year.
I just wanto to add a little note here, that just as we plan and prepare the Christmas celebration this year, our hearts go to those little children and adults and their families who became victims in Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. The thought of sending our loved ones to school and not be able to pick them up to our warm home and to celebrate Christmas was really frightened me and freeze my mind for a few seconds these days. As I have a six years old kid who is a first grader too, the news really shocked me and made me cry every time I read the news. My son can not look at those children’s faces as it makes him sad too. Our deepest sympathy goes to all the families who lost their loved ones as we know that Christmas will never be the same again for them. We are sure they are making snow angels too in heaven with their brightest smiles right now.
May God always be with our loved ones.
