My Kitchen, My Territory

This the place that I spend most of my time when I’m in the house (when my mother is not here of course). My kitchen is my territory, the only place that is under my authority, because other places are occupied by toys, books, newspapers, clothes, and other things. This is where I can be creative and decide what to cook without any intervention from other family members.

This is not very huge, but to me it’s enough. Home is a rented space, so I guess it’s worth the price. Meaning, with not so high price comparing to the market place nowadays, I get this clean and neat kitchen to be my own for at least a year. I only cook, I don’t bake, well not until we buy our own space that I will buy oven, mixer, etc. The hardest part of cooking is the washing. I don’t mind the preparation: chopping vegetables, cut spices, using the blender, or else, but still it is tiring to get all the washing done. For the preparation, I need extra space to do everything, and I think this kitchen has it. I like the U shape (I don’t like the long shape), because it is easier to move and get all the ingredients from the other space.

I like cooking since I was a teenager because I was a picky eater, I rather not eat than to eat something that I didn’t like. That’s why I choose to learn how to cook from my mother. When I was working at the office, I didn’t have much time to cook, only on holidays but not always. Now, that I have to cook everyday, it’s quite frustrating to think about everyday’s menus. That’s why I always like weekends because I don’t have to cook, but sometimes we get tired eating outside and decided to eat at home on weekends.

I like exploring new recipes, so I like to document them in this blog too. Sometimes I forget what ingredients in a recipe, I just go and check my blog. Now that my mother is here, I don’t have to spent much time in the kitchen. Yesterday, the three of us went out on National Day Holiday. We went home in the evening and we were very tired. After taking a bath, the three of us went to the bedroom and relaxed for an hour. Then we felt hungry, and we happily got out of our room, and voila…….the food was ready on the table. Hooray for my mom! Homemade fried chicken (ayam goreng kuning), orek tempe kacang teri asin, sambal terasi, and hot rice were already on the table. What a life………….

And yes, I might not be posting any recipes in the near time, since the kitchen is now my mom’s territory (I say yes to that), and can have many time to blog (hopefully), teach and play with my lil boy, and sleep a lot. Now, I can post other things such as our visit to Tampines Swimming Pool, Pasir Ris Swimming Pool, Explorer Kids Downtown East, and trip to the museum.

And now, this is my temporary kitchen where I cook food for my family, and I like all about it:

My “home sweet home” kitchen

What I like from this kitchen is: there are so many places to store my appliances and food

Hi there. I'm from Indonesia but now live quite far away from my home country. I love cooking for my family. I learned how to cook for the first time from my mom and I believe that mom's cooking is always the best, and I do hope that my son will feel the same too even though he grows up so fast. I love Indonesian food as I grew up with it, and I promise to myself that my son, although he doesn't live in Indonesia right now, will always like and enjoy authentic Indonesian food. I make this blog so that my family will always remember our togetherness and happy time that we had, are having, and will have when we eat together and have good memories about a mother's love through her dishes. Hopefully these recipes will help other people to make healthy home cooked dishes for their families.
